Franz Marc was a painter and printmaker of the German expressionist movement. Mark was born in 1880, in the town of Munich, Germany. His father was a professional landscape painter, his mother was a strict Calvinist. He studied art at the Academy of fine arts in Munich. Between 1903 in 1907, he spent time in Paris, France, visiting the city's museums, where he frequently copied paintings. In Paris he met many artists including Sarah Bernhardt. His work was influenced by Vincent van Gogh, Wassily Kandinsky and Robert Delaunay, whose use of color and futurist method influenced Marc's work. His career was cut short when he was struck in the head and killed instantly by a shell during World War 1.
